Support

How can we help?

Learn how LightsOut works, manage your privacy and connections, and find answers to common questions.

Getting Started

What is LightsOut?

LightsOut helps you see when your friends are nearby and available to meet. Your status and visibility determine how you appear to other people in the app.

How do I change my status?

Open My Status and select the status that best represents what you're doing. You can also control whether you are visible to nearby friends.

Nearby & Location

Why does LightsOut use my location?

LightsOut uses your location to show nearby friends and calculate proximity while you use the app.

Can I hide my location?

Yes. Use the visibility control in My Status when you do not want to appear to nearby friends.

Why can't I see someone nearby?

Their visibility may be turned off, their current status may prevent them from appearing, or their location may not currently be available.

Friends & Connections

What does Connected mean?

Connected people are LightsOut users with whom you have established a connection in the app.

Can I disconnect from someone?

Yes. Open the person's profile and use the disconnect option when it is available.

Tap & Slap

What is a Tap?

A Tap is a lightweight way to signal interest in connecting with another LightsOut user.

What is a Slap?

A Slap indicates that you do not want to make that connection. A Slap does not create a messaging connection.

Messages

Who can message me?

Messaging availability depends on your relationship with the other LightsOut user.

What are official LightsOut messages?

LightsOut may send service, safety, account, or other important notices through the official LightsOut account. Official system messages cannot be replied to.

Inviting Friends

How do I invite someone?

If you allow contact access, LightsOut can show contacts you may want to invite. Select a person and tap Invite to open an invitation on your device.

Does LightsOut automatically message my contacts?

No. LightsOut does not automatically send invitations. Nothing is sent unless you choose a person and initiate the invitation yourself.

Privacy & Safety

How do I report someone?

Open the user's profile and select Report User. Reports can be reviewed by LightsOut for safety and moderation purposes.

How do I block someone?

Open the user's profile and select Block User. Blocking removes the blocked user's content and presence from your LightsOut experience where applicable.

Can LightsOut review messages?

Authorized LightsOut personnel may access relevant account or message information when necessary for safety, abuse investigation, moderation, support, or legal compliance.

Account & Troubleshooting

How do I delete my account?

Open Settings, go to the Account section, and select Delete Account.

The app isn't showing my current location.

Check that location access is enabled for LightsOut in your device settings, then reopen the app.

Something still isn't working.

Contact LightsOut Support using the email address below and describe what happened, including your device type when possible.
